Small efforts can lead to great successes

In 2009 we had the opportunity to travel to Kenya to scout out the possibility of starting several orphanages in the slums of Nairobi.

After spending time meeting with willing local partners, we chose to begin our endeavors in the Githogoro and Kawangware slums of Nairobi, and in the town of Kitale. We have since been able to move the orphanages out of the slums and into cleaner environments where the children can attend stable schools and have better health facilities.

Our orphanage model is to have smaller orphanages, where the children are integrated into the home and care of a local indigenous family as the directors of that orphanage.

Tax deductible support is wired over monthly to care for the children’s needs; housing, food, clothing, medical, schooling, transportation, and an occasional outing to see the giraffes, lions and zebras which are nearby. We have been able to lease vacant land for them to grow and harvest their own corn and enabled them to have chickens for eggs. We recently were able to purchase a cow, who just had her calf, which provides milk for themselves and to sell.
